Theme for Week 1 - Personal Growth
Updated: Oct 4

Welcome to Week 1
If you like to know what’s ahead, here’s a quick preview of the concepts we’ll explore this week. Each week presents a self-development theme that brings together the daily concepts for that week. These themes guide you through your journey by providing a framework, so you always know where you are in your wellness development and how far you have come towards achieving your goals.
While not required, it is recommended that you review the weekly theme before you start your challenges and reflect upon everything at the end of the week. The suggested readings allow you to return at a later date to dig deeper into concepts and support you and others that may be using this system with you.
When you are ready, feel free to jump straight into the first card (next post); Initiative.
What is it?
The theme of Week 1 across the 6 wellness pillars is;
PERSONAL GROWTH.
Before any journey, it's a good idea to have an accurate understanding of yourself. This includes your strengths along with areas that need a little more attention and could use some growth. The wellness concepts presented this week are areas where everyone can benefit from increased knowledge and have room for growth no matter how confident you may feel. Be open to learn, and accept these new skills that you can develop.
An overview of this week's concepts.
Each is sequential and sets the foundation for the next day and the concepts for the coming weeks.
Initiative. This is connected to vocational wellness.
What opportunities in the workforce match your skills and interests?
Is there something you are really skilled at doing that could make you money?
In a broader sense, this is about personal responsibility and taking charge of your life.
Locus of Control. This is connected to intellectual wellness.
Identify the things you can control in your life from the things you cannot.
Where do you place your worry, fear and anxiety? On the things you can control or things that are beyond your control. Why?
Reflect on the one thing you always have control over - choice.
Courage. This is connected to emotional wellness.
Fear is natural and vital to survival. Do not work to eliminate it.
Manage and leverage it to your advantage (courage)
Start understanding and addressing things that you fear.
Self-awareness. This is connected to social wellness.
Internal self-awareness. This is understanding your own emotions, beliefs, values, motivation, strengths and weaknesses
External self-awareness. This is understanding how others perceive you.
Empathy. This is connected to social wellness.
Social media, keyboard warriors (aka; cowardly trolls) and miserable people may be motivated to attack your self-esteem. This is because it requires less effort to drag you down to their level than to put the effort in to address their own flaws and try to improve. It is often less about you and a reflection of their own unhappiness.
People can't control you when you turn off or walk away from the source.
Basic Needs. This is connected to physical wellness.
If you are struggling and your basic needs are not currently being met, this is where you need to pause and address this immediately.
It is very difficult to make future plans if you are not sure how you are going to get through today. Please seek help and get the support you need. You can resume your journey when you are ready.
Rest/Reflection Day. Take a break, complete one of the challenges you may have missed this week and/or reflect on everything you learned and accomplished this week.
Was there anything you learned this week from these challenges ?
Were you inspired to dig a little deeper into any of these concepts?
Was there a concept that was particularly challenging or stood out to you in some way?
This might seem like a lot of information, but this is a resource tool for you to revisit anytime you wish. The point is not to find a solution or master every concept. This is meant to introduce and encourage you to spend a little time putting each concept into action. You can spend as little or as much time working through these concepts as you like.
CardalystTM is about forward momentum and getting you "unstuck".
There is not right or wrong way of doing this. This is your journey.
Side note: Some very cool things tend to happen for people using CardalystTM. You never know when a card with a wellness concept or challenge might spark something powerful and open a whole new set of possibilities and opportunities. I have witnessed this form new friendships, generate innovative new ideas and for some, create a renewed a sense of direction and purpose.
I'm excited to see what it can do for you!
Have a great week!
Deep Dive
Here is a suggestion if you wish to explore more on the theme of self-assessment to reference later on this journey.

"Flourish: A Visionary New Understanding of Happiness and Well-being" by Martin Seligman.
In this book, Seligman argues that the goal of life is not simply to be happy, but to flourish, which is a broader and more meaningful state of wellbeing. He realized that happiness alone was too narrow a measure of a good life. People often pursue things that do not necessarily make
them happy in the moment but are still worthwhile, such as raising children, serving others, mastering a skill, or working toward a meaningful goal. This book compliments CardalystTM. by adding depth in the areas of emotional, social and spiritual wellness. It is not required reading for your journey, just additional content for exploring who you are and how you define wellbeing and success.
