Today's challenge;

List at least 12 things you like about yourself.

What is it?

Self-esteem is the way you see and value yourself. It’s your internal sense of worth and confidence in your abilities, decisions, and identity. Healthy self-esteem means you believe you are worthy of love, respect, and success—just as you are.

Why is it important?

Self-esteem operates on a sliding scale most of the time. It fluctuates based on life experiences, relationships, achievements, and even daily mood. You might feel confident in one area (e.g., work) but insecure in another (e.g., social situations).

It can grow or diminish over time depending on how you process feedback, setbacks, and personal growth. What is important is to be aware when it slips and keep working on it. The payoffs are;

  • Mental Health: High self-esteem is linked to lower anxiety, depression, and stress.

  • Resilience: It helps you bounce back from failure and face challenges with confidence.

  • Relationships: When you value yourself, you’re more likely to set healthy boundaries and attract respectful connections.

  • Motivation: Believing in yourself fuels action, growth, and goal achievement.

Here are some tips to boost your self-esteem.

  • Practice Self-Compassion. Speak to yourself with kindness, especially when you make mistakes.

  • Challenge Negative Self-Talk. Notice critical thoughts and replace them with more balanced, supportive ones.

  • Celebrate Small Wins. Acknowledge your efforts and progress, not just big achievements.

  • Set Realistic Goals. Accomplishing achievable goals builds confidence and momentum.

  • Surround Yourself with Positivity. Spend time with people who uplift and support you. Conversely, start distancing yourself from toxic and negative people in your life as much as possible.

  • Take Care of Your Body. Physical wellness supports emotional well-being—sleep, nutrition, and movement matter.

  • Do Things That Align with Your Values. Living authentically strengthens your sense of self-worth.
