1- Basic Needs

Today's challenge:


Assess your basic needs. Make an improvement in one of them. It doesn't have to be a big change. just something small and easy to practice movement in the right direction.


What is this?


Take a moment to reflect on your basic survival needs—the essentials that keep you alive and functioning:

  • Air

  • Water

  • Food

  • Shelter

  • Clothing

  • Heat

  • Sleep

  • Money (as a means to access many of the above)


What is this important?


According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Motivations, these foundational needs must be met before you can pursue wellness, leadership, or long-term goals. When neglected, they can lead to stress, poor health, and a cycle that’s hard to break.


Meeting these needs—even minimally—creates stability and opens the door to growth.


What are some things I can do to address my basic needs?


  1. Be Prepared/Be Proactive. Emergencies remind us how fragile life can be. Visit getprepared.gc.ca for tips on building a basic emergency kit.

  2. Seek Help & Take Action. Asking for help is a strength. But growth also requires effort. You are not defined by your current situation—how you respond is what matters.

  3. Build Resilience. Resilience is built through effort and experience. Each small step strengthens your ability to thrive.


Today’s challenge is about starting small. One improvement leads to another. You’re laying the foundation for a stronger, more confident version of yourself.
